Stanley William Stewart, 84, of Burlington, died Dec. 23, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born May 13, 1919, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late Homer W. and Mary E. (Smith) Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Thornton (Bruce) Stewart Jan. 3, 2003; one son, Stanley Homer Stewart; five brothers, Kendall Stewart, Ernest Stewart, Pearl Stewart, Charles Stewart and Wilson Stewart; and one sister Mary E. "Sipper" Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a logger, farmer and horse trainer. He was a U.S. Army motorcycle messenger and World War II prisoner of war. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. He is survived by one brother, Brownley Stewart of Williamsport and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were Dec. 28, at Green Hill Cemetery, Williamsport, with.. Mrs. Ruth Rebecca Rexrode, 75, of Stephenson, Va., died Dec. 23, at her home. Born Nov. 20, 1928, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Jasper L. and Esta (Turner) Berg. She was also preceded in death by one son, James Rexrode; and one brother, Jasper Berg. Mrs. Rexrode was a former switchboard operator at Winchester Memorial Hospital. She attended First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Rexrode, whom she married Aug. 29, 1948; two sons, Robert A. Rexrode of Winchester and William M. Mrs. Vuelta Charlotte "Suzie" Aronhalt, 85, of Elk Garden, died Dec. 25, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, Md. Born June 11, 1918, in Jordan Run, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Essie Virginia (Hawk) Rohrbaugh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Aronhalt; one son, Ervin W. Aronhalt; three brothers, Merl Rohrbaugh, Ivan Rohrbaugh and Vernon Rohr-baugh; and one sister, Elsie Paff. Mrs. Twila Zirk Hartman, 78, of Moorefield, died Dec. 25, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born Aug. 2, 1925, in Hardy County, she was the daughter of the late Marlin W. and Sylvia (Wilkens) Bean. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Grover C. Zirk Jr.; and one granddaughter. Mrs. Hartman was a former owner and operator of Bean's Lime and Stone. She was a member of Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Start #102, Moorefield and former member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bill Hartman; two sons, Greg Zirk and Dennis C. Zirk, both of Moorefield; one daughter, Brenda Z. Kennie O. Lough, 93, of Upper Tract, died Dec. 10, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born Oct. 20, 1910 at Deer Run, he was the son of the late Calvin Z. Lough and Olive Ida (Propst) Lough. On March 31, 1987 he was preceded in death by his wife Leona K. Greenawalt Lough. They were married Sept. 12, 1943. He was also preceded in death by one brother. Mr. Lough was a poultry and beef cattle farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the West Virginia Farm Bureau and a member of Christ Central Church, Upper Tract. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley F. Borror of Petersburg and Betty J. Smith of Upper Tract; two sisters, Ella Miller of Keyser and Nora Harper of Brush Valley, Pa.; five grandchildren, Larry Smith, Jerry Smith, Roger Borror, Lonnie Borror and Carolyn Wonders; and five great-grandchildren, Kimberly Borror, Jodi Borror, Roger Borror II, Hannah Wonders and Trevor Wonders. Mrs. June Gayle (Harper) Thompson, 81, of Seneca Rocks, died Dec. 16, at the Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C. Born Dec. 4, 1922 in Macksville, she was the daughter of the late Henry Elmer Harper and Mary Susan (Thompson) Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Blan Thompson, Dec. 23, 1982 and one brother, Morris Harper. Mrs. Thompson was a store merchant at Macksville Store and active post-mistress of the Macksville Post Office from Dec. 1, 1950 until May 10, 1951, when it was transferred to Seneca Rocks. She was a member of the Seneca Presbyterian Church. She is survived by one son, Dallas H. Harper of Sanford, N.C.: two daughters, Loretta F. Barlow of Arlington, Va. and Darlene Thompson of Asheville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Dexter Harper and Robert Barlow, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hazel Lucille Dahmer, 91, of Upper Tract, died Dec. 17, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. Born July 23, 1912, in Kline, she was the daughter of the late Evan Perry Mallow and Jessie Zoe (Dahmer) Mallow. She was also preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Stanley Dahmer, March 11, 1998; two brothers, Lee and Carl Mallow; and one sister, Mary Jane Harman. Mrs. Ruby Virginia "Sis" Burns of Riverton, died Dec. 8, at her home. Born Jan. 13, 1936, at Alpine, she was the daughter of the late Laura Bennett Grapes. She was also preceded in death by one son and one brother. Mrs. Burns was employed for five years at Connie Sportswear and for 15 years at Hanover Shoe. Thorn and Mary Catherine (Kesner) Thorn. He was also preceded in death by one son, Mark Allen Thorn, July 2, 1980. Mr. Thorn retired in 1994 from Mount Storm Power Station, Mount Storm, W. Va. Born Sept. 8, 1910 in Romney, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Lee Peters and Inez (Saville) Peters. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garrett S. VanMeter, Aug. 28, 1992; one son, Donald Lee VanMeter; three sisters, Eleta Harman, Betty Harrison and Evelyn Parson; and one brother, Edgar Peters. Mrs. VanMeter graduated from Shepherd College. She and her husband, owned Locust Shade Dairy farm in Petersburg, for over 40 years. Lindbergh D. "Lindy" Kimble, 76, of Springfield, died Nov. 29 at the Veterans Medical Center Nursing Home, Martinsburg. Born June 23, 1927 in Champwood, he was the son of the late Guy Kimble and Tressie (Shreve) Kimble. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Minnie Rebecca Kimble and one brother, Donald Kimble. Mr. Kimble was retired from Vepco and served in the U.S. Army and Navy. He was a member of the Romney Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mrs. Arbutus Snow Zirk, 58, of Moorefield, died Nov. 28 at her residence. Born May 4, 1945, she was a daughter of Clyde Mack See Sr., Moorefield, and the late Minnie (Crites) See. Clyde O. Cosner, age 86 of Keyser, W.Va., died Nov. 27, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va. Born July 25, 1917 in Bismarck, W.Va., he was the son of the late Sanford J. Cosner and Nora (Moreland) Cosner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Vernie Cosner Starnes and one brother, Calvin L. Cosner. Mr. Cosner was a coal miner, a brakeman and a conductor for the B&O Railroad and a carpenter for the local union in Cumberland, Md. He was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren in Bismarck, W.Va. Richard Mylo Allen, 66, of Petersburg, died Nov. 26, at his home Born May 25, 1937, in Buck, Summers County, he was the son of Louise Lily Allen and the late Myrl Allen. He was preceded in death by one infant sister. Mr. Allen graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in civil engineering and worked for the federal government. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964. He was a member of the North Mill Creek Baptist Church were he taught Sunday School, held the position of superintendent, deacon and sang many years with the Valley Gospel Aires. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Connie Ilene (Seggie) Allen; four sons, Richard K. Allen and Michael S. Allen of Petersburg, James W. Allen of Newburg and Erick T. Loy Virgil Hedrick, 88, of Princeton, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born May 8, 1915, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Jesse and Ottie Hedrick. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Ersell Hedrick. Mr. Hedrick was a retired foreman for U.S. Steel. He was also a charter member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton where he served as deacon and trustee. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Doris Columbus Hedrick, of Princeton; one daughter, Linda Barr of Durham, N.C.; one brother, Clarence Hedrick of Petersburg; two step-daughters, Leva June Mickle and Joan Ridenour of Fairmont; one grandson, John Barr of Fla.; one nephew, Larry Hedrick of Petersburg; and several step-grandchildren. Randy Edward Goldizen, 57, of Winchester, Va., died Dec. 3, at Winchester Medical Center. Born Nov 1, 1946 in Petersburg, he was the son of Osa M. and Maxine (VanMeter) Goldizen of Winchester. Mr. Goldizen was a captain with the Front Royal Police Department having served there for 18 years and formerly a member of the Winchester Police Department. He was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283, Mid-Eastern Team Roping Association and the Virginia Cowboys Association. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife Vivian Qunette Henderson, whom he married Jan. 27, 1996; one son, Branden Alexander Goldizen of Stephens City, Va.; two stepchildren, Elizabeth Dyan Colton of Centreville, Va. and Richard Wesley Colton of Front Royal, Va.; two sisters, Brenda Hoff of Boyce, Va. and Jackie Underwood of Stephens City; and two brothers Steve Goldizen of Stephenson, Va. and Rick Goldizen of Stephens City. Linda Ann Lutz, 42, of May-sville, formerly of Baltimore, Md., died at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, Nov. 30, after a courageous 6-year battle with breast and brain cancer. Born on Dec. 12, 1960 in Miami, Fla., she was the daughter of the late George and Lucy Gallaher. Linda worked as a secretary with the Baltimore City Police Dept., Baltimore's Dept. of Transit and Traffic and the Eastern Puma Research Network's National Center. She was a lifelong Latin Catholic by faith, formerly attending Annunciation Catholic Church in Rosedale, Md., and presently St. Mary's Catholic Church in Petersburg. Linda is survived by her husband of 20 plus years, John. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 4, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Petersburg. Interment followed in Lahmansville Cemetery. Brooks E. Nuzum Jr., 61, of Fairmont, died Sunday Dec. 14, at his residence. Born June 22, 1942 in Fairmont, he was the son of the late Brooks E. Nuzum Sr. and Josephine (Merrifield) Nuzum. Mr. Nuzum was a 1960 graduate of East Fairmont High School and a graduate of Fairmont State College. He was a methodist by faith. He was employed as a State Trooper for the West Virginia State Police, and as an officer for the Fairmont City Police. He was most recently employed with the Alcan Aluminum Co. in Fairmont. He was a volunteer and coach for his sons' athletic teams, including: Crossroads Little League, I.V.E. Rockets and assistant coach for the Petersburg High School junior high football team. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sue Nuzum; three sons, B.J. Nuzum and Brian Nuzum both of Maysville, and Brad Nuzum of Fairmont; one sister, Shirley Gates of Cranberry Township, Pa.; and seven grandchildren; Andrew Nuzum, Nikki Nuzum, Jacob Nuzum, Kaitlyn Nuzum, Brooklyn Nuzum, Nicholas Nuzum and Nathan Nuzum t.Funeral services were Dec. 14,. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Mrs. Lonia Dellen (Whetzel) Ratliff, age 80, of Upper Tract, W.Va. died Nov. 18, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg, W.Va. Born March 30, 1923 in Hardy County W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Silas Whetzel and Dora Alice (Mongold) Whetzel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Olin G. Ratliff, April 9, 1997; two brothers, Harry Whetzel and Harman Whetzel; nine sisters, Edna Whetzel, Hattie Caplinger, Virginia Kelley, Bertie Nazelrodt, Odie Mongold, Ollie May, Susie Evans, Margie Nazelrodt and Betty Evans. Mrs. Ratliff was a member of the South Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. She is survived by one son; O. Lee Ratliff and wife, Grace of Petersburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Evelyn M. Born April 3, 1915 in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Harrison and Sarah (Reel) Harrison. Mrs. Marie Sears Fortner, 73, of Petersburg, died Friday, Nov. 21, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where she had resided since January 1997. Born Jan. 18, 1930 in Petersburg, she is the daughter of Gertrude (Crider) Ours, resident of the Grant County Nursing Home and the late Homer Ray Ours. Edward C. "Eddie" Howell, 26, of Wellsville, N.Y., and formerly of Moorefield, died Nov. 1, at his home in New York. Born July 14, 1977 in Cumberland Md., he was the son of Sandra "Sandy" (Howell) Bean of Petersburg and the late Edward V. "Pete" Howell. He was also preceded in death by his grandfather, Overton (Kobe) Kessel. Born July 30, 1927 in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Brinley Devor and Hilda (Hardman) Devor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Day, Dec. 3,1999 and one son, Robert C. Day II. Mrs. Day was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and Shepherd College. She was employed by Letterkinney Depot, Chambersburg, Pa. and Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown, Md., for several years. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Arthur. Mrs. Alice (Wolfe) Kessel, 95, of Williamsport, died Oct. 28, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where she had resided the past two years. Born Feb. 29, 1908, in Bayard, she was the daughter of the late William Edward Wolfe and Nora (Smith) Wolfe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Kessel, April 13, 1961; one son, Arthur E. Mongold and Myrtle (Riggleman) Mongold. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Byron E. "Bud" Shobe, Oct. 31, 1984; one brother, John Adam Mongold; and one sister, Sue (Mongold) Schmuck. Mrs. Shobe owned and operated Evelyn's Beauty Shop in Petersburg for over 30 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Petersburg, the church council, the church altar guild and was past president of the Bible Study Circle of WELCA. The Church Women United of Petersburg awarded her "Valiant Woman 2002." She was active with the Petersburg Interfaith Pantry and Lenten luncheons. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was active with the Golden Lanes Bowling Leagues in Petersburg for several years. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda J.
