Mrs. Anna L. Potter, 66, of Mount Storm, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at her home.

Born Nov. 19, 1940, in Gormania, she was the daughter of the late Clarence D. Moreland Sr. and Twila (Rotruck) Moreland. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Hilda Moreland; and three brothers, Richard Moreland, Ernest Moreland and Clarence David Moreland Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Lyndol E. Potter; two daughters, Lenora Dillon of Danville, Ill., and Melanie Bonner of Mount Storm; one son, Larry D. Selders of Mount Storm; two brothers, Glen Moreland of Inwood and Alvin Moreland of Charles Town; eight grandchildren; and three-great-grandchildren.

At her request, her body was cremated. An inurnment service will be today (Tuesday), at 2 p.m., at the Locust Grove Cemetery, Mount Storm, with the Rev. Gloria Georg officiating.

Glenn Lyons, 74, of New Creek, died Monday, Sept. 24, at the Braddock Campus of the WMHS, Cumberland, Md.

Born Aug. 7, 1933, at Martin, he was the son of the late John and Anna Rebecca (Michael) Lyons. He was also preceded in death by one infant brother; and three sisters, Mae Lyons, Lucille Lyons and Nina Arnold.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Ann "Cookie" (Cook) Lyons; three daughters, Debra Dryden of Brandon, Fla., and Sandra Rohrbaugh and Kimberly Hanlin, both of New Creek; one son, Glenn Lyons Jr. of Old Fields; one sister, Marion Bishop of Shelby Twp., Mich.; five grandchildren, Michael Dryden, Caleb Rohrbaugh, Kyle Rosier, Katarina Rosier and Khrystian Rosier.

Funeral services were Friday, morning, at the Knobley Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. Interment was in the Knobley Memorial Gardens, Martin.

Mrs. Janet (Sites) Carlyle, 80, of Winchester, Va., died Saturday, Sept. 22, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester.

Born Feb. 12, 1927, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Ray A. and Grace V. Sites. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bonnie Martin, Rose Russell and Arvella Combs; and one brother, John Sites.

She is survived by her husband, William A. Carlyle, whom she married March 24, 1948, in Winchester; three sons, David J. Carlyle, William M. Carlyle and Terry A. Carlyle, all of Winchester; one daughter, Phyllis A. Carlyle of Winchester; two sisters, Mary Thorne of Petersburg and Viola McUtly of Winchester; two brothers, Dorse Sites and Norman Sites, both of Winchester; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon, at the Jones Funeral Home chapel, Winchester, with Pastor Carolyn Martin officiating. Interment was in the Shenandoah Memorial Park. (10-2)

Mrs. Ruby Marie (Rohrbaugh) Smootz, 77, of Antioch, died Friday, Oct. 5, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born April 23, 1930, in Jordan Run, she was the daughter of the late Victor Adam Rohrbaugh and Dovie C. (Rohrbaugh) Rohrbaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Russell B. Smootz, Oct. 6, 1995; two sisters, Kathleen Feaster and Sally Crabbe; and four brothers, Tracy Rohrbaugh, Minor Rohrbaugh, Olin Rohrbaugh and infant, Victor Rohrbaugh Jr.

She is survived by one son, Andrew A. Smootz of Linville, Va.; two daughters, Sandra Eberly of New Holland, Pa. and Joyce Shaffer of New Creek; five grandchildren, Anita Smootz, Andrew A. Smootz II, Roy Edward Eberly, Rebecca Sensenig and Shane Russell Shaffer; four great-grandchildren, Jedd and Emily Eberly and Kaylene and Kambria Sensenig; two sisters, Mary K. Mongold of Petersburg and Dolly Caldwell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and one brother, Harold Rohrbaugh of Maysville.

Funeral services were Monday morning at Ridge Dunkard Brethren Church, with the Revs. Roger Leatherman, Ray Stuber and Keith Snyder officiating. Interment was at Knobley Memorial Garden Cemetery, Antioch.

Dr. Frederick Stanley Raines, 69, of Franklin, died Monday, Sept. 24, as a result of an auto accident in Upper Tract.

Born Oct. 23, 1937, in Charleston, he was the son of the late Blake L. and Anna (Smith) Raines. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Price.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen Elena (Bell) Raines, whom he married Dec. 19, 1987; two daughters, Stephanie Lynne Raines of Denver and Patricia Elizabeth Raines of Washington, Pa.; two sisters, Betty Raines of Murrells Inlet, S.C. and Beverly Raines of Dunbar; and one brother, Charles R. Raines of Beaver.

Memorial services were Friday evening, at the Living Faith Church, Franklin, with Pastor Stephen F. Teter officiating. Interment was Sept. 29, in the Leon Cemetery, Leon.

Mrs. Mary Alice "Putty" Hawks, 61, of Seneca Rocks, died Friday, Oct. 5, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.

Born Sept. 19, 1946, in Onego, she was the daughter of the late Burley Heavener and Tiny Helen Arbogast Borror.

She is survived by her husband, George Abraham Hawks of Warm Springs, Va.; three daughters, Jennifer Lea Lane of Hot Springs, Va., Jackie Lynn Hawks of Seneca Rocks and Judy Ann Lonas of Stanley, Va.; one son, Jeffrey Todd Hawks of Moorefield; one sister, Ruthie Michalides of Moorefield; two brothers, Roger Lee Heavener of Petersburg and Robert "Bobby" Borror of Huntington; and 13 grandchildren.

Mrs. Lila Edith Grogg, 63, of Moorefield, died Monday Oct. 1, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born March 27, 1944, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Emory L. and Annie E. (Sirbaugh) Bosley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emory Jess Grogg in October 1999; and one son, Tony Grogg.

She is survived by two sons, Gary A. Grogg of Harrisonburg, Va. and Edward L. Grogg of Stafford, Va.; two daughters, Kimberly J. Christiansen and Brenda Grogg, both of Falls Church, Va.; one brother, Gene Bosley of Petersburg; one sister, Bonnie Strawder of Elkins; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, at the Fraley Funeral Home chapel, Moorefield, with Pastor Don Knotts officiating. Interment was at the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract.

Mrs. Mary Virginia Stump, 87, of Moorefield, died Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Born Feb. 15, 1920, in Hardy County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar B. and Blossie C. (Wolfe) Southerly. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Glenn Stump, in October 1960; one son; one daughter; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; three brothers; and four sisters.

She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Stump Sr., Johnny Stump and Randall Stump, all of Moorefield; three daughters, Margy Wratchford and Frances Riggleman, both of Moorefield and Peggy Stump of Keyser; one brother, Wayne Southerly of Old Fields; three sisters, Nancy Hambleton of Moorefield, and Betty Southerly and Roberta Porter, both of Petersburg; 31 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Charity Baptist Church, Moorefield, with Pastor Jimmy Stump Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Jenkins Cemetery, Moorefield.

Mrs. Alice Louise Stewart, 86, of Red Lion, Pa. and formerly of Hampshire County, died Monday, Oct. 8, at her residence.

Born Feb. 13, 1921, in Delray, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Susan V. (Shelley) Carlile. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Otis Woodrow Stewart Aug. 28, 1989; three brothers; and three sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Dawn Burgess of Red Lion; one son, Daryl Stewart of Maysville; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today (Tuesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at the McKee Funeral Home chapel, with Eric Bridges officiating minister. Interment will be in the Green Lane Cemetery, Delray.

Vernon Melton Whetzel, 84, of Petersburg, died Monday, Oct. 15, at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg.

Born June 16, 1923, in Pendleton County, he was the son of the late Albert Melton Whetzel and Martha Jane (Alt) Whetzel. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lula (Cobb) Whetzel; four brothers, Ora C. Whetzel, Charles R. Whetzel, Curtis A. Whetzel and Arvil W. "John" Whetzel; and three sisters, infant Geneva Virginia Whetzel, Rhoda Ellen Berg and Goldie Arbutus Kesner.

He is survived by his second wife, Carol (Curtis) Whetzel; two sons, Larry Melton Whetzel of Manassas, Va. and James Michael Whetzel of Marysville, Ohio; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Watson of Baltimore; four sisters, Ruth A. Engle of Purgitsville, Anna M. Bennett of Moorefield, Clara Nell Ours of Cabins and Cloda Bell Kisamore of Arthur; one brother, Albert Junior Whetzel of Arthur; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating. Interment was in the Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract. Military graveside rites were accorded by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and JROTC.

Ira Chester Whetzel, 87, of Moorefield, died Thursday, Oct. 18, at his home.

Born Feb. 26, 1920, in Dumpling Run, he was the son of the late Jackson and Virginia Alice (Mongold) Whetzel. He was also preceded in death by one infant daughter, Caroline Whetzel; four brothers, Noah, Johnie, Jesse and Tony Whetzel; and six sisters, Virgie Simmons, Pauline Nelson, Rebecca Kesner, Goldie Sites, Viola Whetzel and Hazel Whetzel.

He is survived by three sons, Ernest Whetzel of Old Fields, Roger Whetzel of Mount Storm and Billy Whetzel of Arthur; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nellie Ours of Petersburg.

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Floyd Dove and Brother Paul Fox officiating. Interment was in the Whetzel Family Cemtery, Moorefield.

Mrs. Arvella Delia (Turner) Whetzel, 72, of Dorcas, died Friday, Oct. 19, at the Grant ?County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Born July 1, 1935, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Maudie (Hartman) Turner. She was also preceded in death by one half sister, Esta Berg; and three half brothers, Burley Turner, Otha Turner and Erman Turner. She was the last member of her immediate family.

She was survived by her husband of 48 years, Lemuel R. Whetzel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday morning, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Craig Howard officiating. Interment was in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Clifford Vernon Miller III, 59, of Maysville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at his residence.

Born Dec. 6, 1947, in Sandusky, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clifford Vernon Miller Jr. and Rosella Marie (Riedy) Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Kasilke) Miller, whom he married July 4, 2002; two daughters, Rosella Miller of Sarasota, Fla. and Nickolett Lakins of Venice, Fla.; two sons, Brandon O'Neill and James O'Neill, both of Petersburg; three brothers, Craig Miller of Ohio, Chris Miller of Clinton, Ohio and Calvin Miller of Sandusky; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Nov. 3, at 2 p.m., at the Miller residence.

Richard Owen Lyons, 87, died October 18, 2007, at the Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va.

He was a native of Grafton, W.Va. and had resided in Mount Storm, W.Va. prior to his move to Harrisonburg in 2000.

Mr. Lyons was born October 3, 1920, and was the son of Owen W. Lyons and Carrie H. Lyons.

He was preceded in death in July of this year by his wife of 62 years, Madeline P. Lyons.

Mr. Lyons is survived by two sons, Richard E. Lyons of Harrisonburg, Va. and Douglas M. Lyons of Mount Storm, W.Va., four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews.

His body was cremated.

A memorial service will be held at the Meredith Chapel on the Sunnyside campus in Harrisonburg on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. The Revs. Paul O'Gorek, Tom Smith and Paul Smith will officiate.

Ira Allen Bliss Jr., 65, of Petersburg, died Friday, Oct. 19, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Feb. 28, 1942, in Oakdale, Calif., he was the son of the late Ira Allen Sr. and Margie (Moore) Bliss.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel (Lewis) Bliss; two stepsons, Doyle Petersen of Utah and Jimmie Petersen of Arizona; four stepdaughters, Violet Knight of Petersburg, Judy Woods of Utah, Mary Granato of Nebraska and Lenna Wilkie of Arizona; 19 grandchildren, including Karena Knight and Desirae Knight of Petersburg; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Military funeral services were Monday afternoon, at Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with Father Giles LeVassuer officiating. Interment was in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton.

Mrs. Etta June (Vance) Weese, 86, of Riverton, died Sunday, Oct. 21, at her home.

Born June 7, 1921, in Onego, she was the daughter of the late John Hoy Vance and Delphia (Sites) Vance. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John W. Weese, Jan. 3, 1993; one sister, Mae Shirk; and two brothers, French Vance and Burt Vance.

She is survived by two sons, Roy L. Hayes of Baltimore and David A. Weese of Franklin; two daughters, Betty L. Burner and Lera J. Volz, both of Riverton; one brother, Burrel Vance of Seneca Rocks; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Thursday morning at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with Elder Richard Warner officiating. Interment was in the Huffman Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Iva Grace (Zirk) Weatherholtz, 89, of Lahmansville, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at her home.

Born Aug. 31, 1918, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah William "Pat" Zirk and Margaret Virginia (Lewis) Zirk. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Weatherholtz in 1985; one brother, Noah Zirk; six sisters, Cora Delawder, Elizabeth Weatherholtz, Virginia Zirk and three infants; and four grandsons. She was the last member of her immediate family.

She is survived by five sons, Lester F. "Bud" Weatherholtz, Chester W. "Chet" Weatherholtz, Billy D. "Buck" Weatherholtz and David W. Weatherholtz, all of Lahmansville and John J. Weatherholtz of Williamsport; eight daughters, Margaret V. Reed of Cabins, Barbara A. Nesselrodte and Rebecca R. "Becky" Pennington, both of Petersburg; Betty G. Meek of Williamsport, E. June Weatherholtz of Lahmansville, Rose M. Rexroad of Gassaway, Emily D. Dean of Romney and Edith L. "Edie" Pruitt of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; 41 grandchildren, including Adam Kisamore, Amy Kisamore and Andrew Kisamore whom she raised, and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jean Kathleen Sites, 74, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Pansy, she was the daughter of the late Lester D. Kesner and Glenna (Judy) Kesner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Linton H. Sites, May 29, 1991; and two brothers, Vernon Kesner and Ralph Kesner.

Mrs. Sites graduated from Petersburg High School in 1953. She and her husband built the Petersburg Dairy Queen in 1954 and it was operated by the Sites family for 51 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Petersburg, and the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Michael C. Sites of Petersburg; one brother, Paul Kesner of Petersburg; five nephews and eight nieces.

The Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary conducted services Wednesday evening, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg.

Funeral services were Friday morning at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Cantu and the Rev. Fred Soltow Jr. officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Donald Richard Judy, 72, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Oct. 21, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.

Born Sept. 10, 1935 in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late Harry Eston Judy and Delphia (Kesner) Judy. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Harry Edward Judy; and three sisters, Anna Mae Martin, Juanita Crites and infant Mary Virginia Judy.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Lorene (Peters) Judy; three sisters, Arvella Sites, Lovetta Alt and Betty Greenwalt, all of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Wednesday morning at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Gregory A. Rotruck officiating. Interment was in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Paul O. Frazier, 81, of Fairmont, died Thursday, Oct. 25, at HealthSouth in Morgantown.

Born March 17, 1926, in Bayard, he was the son of the late Lindsey and Bessie (Perry) Frazier. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah Rubenstein, Hazel Moon, and Lorene Harding.

Mr. Frazier was a member of the UMWA, Local #31, as well as a former member of the board of the Literacy Volunteers and served on the board and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 25 years. He was also a former president and member of the Home Craft Club of Fairmont.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Rhonda (Browning) Frazier; two daughters, Paula Frazier Wegener and Vicki Cain, both of Fairmont; one brother, Fred Frazier of Fairmont; two grandchildren, Tessa Wegener of Bethany and Sarah Cain of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, Fairmont, with the Rev. Mary Ellen Finnegan officiating. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum. A flag folding ceremony was held at the graveside.

Mrs. Joyce L. Muntzing, 73, of Chillicothe, Ohio, died Monday, Oct. 22, at her residence.

Born Feb. 7, 1934, in Fairmont, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Florence E. (Wiles) Latham.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard G. Muntzing, whom she married Dec. 21, 1955. Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah Jo Heller of Hilliard, Ohio, Rachel Ann Lynn of Worthington, Ohio and Florence Eleanor "Fluff" Knauff of Lucasville, Ohio; two sons, William Brook Muntzing of Columbus, Ohio and Maynard Glenn Muntzing of Kettering, Ohio; one brother, Dr. James W. Latham of Ladylake, Fla.; one sister, Joan Morgan of Fairmont; grandchildren, Lauren, Leah and David Lynn, Alexandra and Robert Heller, Sarah Muntzing, Brent Knauff, Nicholas and Erin Muntzing and Brittany and Tyler Erwin; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were Thursday evening, Oct. 25, at the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, with Dr. Dennis Mohler officiating. There will be a graveside service Saturday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m. at the Maysville Cemetery with the Rev. Karen Muntzing officiating.

Merlin North "Midge" George, 72, of Petersburg, died Monday, Oct. 29, at his home.

Born Sept. 15, 1935, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Pearl Eston George and Ella (Kuykendall) George. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest L. "Satchel" George and James T. George; and one sister, Evelyn (George) Self.

He is survived by five brothers, Harold George of Maysville, Clifton "Joe" George of Brushy Run, and Junior George, Donald George and Otha George, all of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Nov. 16, 1918, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Mark Brennan and Mary Jane (Rohrbaugh) Brennan. He was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Paul Brennan Jr., three brothers, Thomas Brennan, Noah Brennan and James Brennan; and four sisters, Mary Cornell, Anna Rotruck, Dorothy Hodges and Julie Rexroad.

He is survived by one son, James J. Carr and wife Nicole, of Goldsboro; three grandchildren, Daniel Carr of New Hampshire, Brennan Carr of Goldsboro and Amy Brennan of Laurel, Md.; two sisters, Agnes Rexrode of Lahmansville and Lillian Brown of Branford, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruby (Wolfe) Riggleman, 89, of Westernport, Md. and formerly of Moorefield, died Thursday, Nov. 8, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born March 25, 1918, on Wolf Mountain, Hardy County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Cora Wolfe. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Regina Branson, Effie Fitzwater and Virginia Leonard; and one brother, Dewey Wolfe. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Glen Riggleman; two sons, Gary Riggleman of Westernport and Kevin Riggleman of Wilmington, N.C.; and one daughter, Beverly Riggleman of Cumberland, Md.

Ellworth Harman, 88, of Petersburg, formerly of Seneca Rocks, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born July 29, 1919, in Mackville, he was the son of the late Omar T. and Zora (Harman) Harman. He was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas W. Harman; one grandson, Boyd "Bear" Harman Jr.; three brothers, Mancil Harman, Otho Harman and Ivan Harman; and two sisters, Nina Harman and Mona Cooper. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Berry of Burke, Va.; six sons, Boyd Harman Sr. of Sugar Grove, Larry W. Harman of Baker, Stanley L. Harman and Stephen D. Harman, both of Petersburg, Robert M. Harman of Fort Seybert and Harold R. Harman of Rockville, Md.; 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late David H. and Dolly (Hinkle) Bergdoll. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Hoover, Leon W. Bollinger and Shirley Yokum; one son, Kenneth Lee Hoover; two brothers, Claude Bergdoll and Homer Bergdoll; and one sister, Virgie Sites. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Yokum retired from Amp Corporation in York, Pa. and was a member of Christ Central Community Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol A. Born Oct. 9, 1915, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late William Hervy Kile and Belle (Johnson) Kile Sites. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garfield William Simmons in 1974, whom she married June 19, 1940; two daughters, Martha L. (Simmons) Bogan and Mary B. (Simmons) Watts; three grandchildren, Tina Louise Moore, Amy Michelle Bogan Wratchford and Fredrick "Big Joe" Watts; one great-grandson, Tyler M. Moore; four brothers, Forrest "Joe" Kile, Brooke Kile, Glen Kile and Emmett Kile; and one sister, Mary E. (Kile) Hickman. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Born June 5, 1927, in Jordan Run, he was the son of the late John Evers and Dollie Ethel (Arbogast) Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Carol (Walker) Evans in 1986; and Mary Kathryn (Lyon) Evans in 2003; one sister, Helen Teter; two brothers, Glenn K. Evans and Emil Evans; and one stepdaughter.

Mr. Evans retired from Bethlehem Steel, Pittsburgh, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 78 of Petersburg. He was a member of the Jordan Run Brethren Church.

He is survived by one son, David J. Evans of Maysville; two grandchildren, Casey J. Evans and David Shane Evans; two great-grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Ica Teter of Maysville; and two brothers, Gene Evans of Maysville and Colon Evans of Rig.

Born Nov. 14, 1984, in Petersburg, he was the son of William "Bill" L. Moore of Maysville and Debra (Mayle) Lambert of Harpers?Ferry. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert L. Moore.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Nancy Moore of Maysville; his stepfather, Klayton Lambert of Harpers Ferry; one stepsister, Danielle Nettles of Parsons; his maternal grandparents, Carl and Judy Mayle of Petersburg; his paternal grandparents, Roy and Beulah Bennett of Petersburg, and Linda Moore of Maysville; and his stepgrandparents, Carla and Brace Heit of Hedgesville and Josh and Mary Green of Walker.

Born Aug. 20, 1930, in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of John and Ellen Laari, who had recently immigrated from Helsinki, Finland.

Farland A. Veach, 77, of San Bernadeno, Calif., was killed instantly Tuesday, Oct. 9, when he was struck by a county transit bus in Orange County, Calif.

Born Nov. 14, 1929, on Orrs Mountain, he was the son of the late Calvin "Callie" Veach and Anna (Martin) Veach. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leo Veach, Ernest Veach and Reginald Kay Veach; and one sister, Margie Veach.

He is survived by his wife, love and best friend of 46 years, Dorothy (Smith) Veach, formerly of Kessel; one son, Lloyd Wayne Veach; two brothers, Douglas Veach of Petersburg and Dalton Veach of Slanesville; three sisters, Arvella Piercy of Annandale, Va., Aretta Turner of Petersburg and Rosella Veach of Centreville, Mass.; two grandchildren, Eric Luanna and William Douglas Veach; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. E. Diane (Rohrbaugh) Goldizen, 49, of Maysville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Aug. 11, 1958, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Vernon E. and Ethel Virginia (Amtower) Rohrbaugh.

She is survived by her husband, Terry A. Goldizen, whom she married April 25, 1979; one son, Robert A. Goldizen of Maysville; one daughter, Kimberly L. Whetzel of Scherr; one foster son, Shawn Rohrbaugh of Maysville; four grandchildren, Martin Turner, Hannah Goldizen, Seth Whetzel and Delana Whetzel; one foster granddaughter, Skylar Rohrbaugh; one sister, Louise Carrigan of Culpeper, Va.; and two brothers, Galen Rohrbaugh of Oakland, Md. and Harold "Sonny" Rohrbaugh of Fairfax, Va.

Funeral services were Friday morning at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Revs. Vivan Watts and Stephen Landis officiating. Interment was in the Goldizen Family Cemetery, Maysville.

Infant Joseph Kohl Stumbo died at birth Monday, Dec. 3, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

He was the son of Joe D. Strumbo and Julie Jean Evans of Maysville. He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Joseph Trevorlee Stumbo and maternal great-grandfather, Donald Berg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Evan Strout at home; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Gloria Evans of Maysville; paternal grandmother Lena Stumbo of Circleville and paternal grandfather, Bobby Bennett of Circleville; maternal great-grandmother, Goldie Berg of Maysville; paternal great-grandmother, Ida Stumbo of Franklin; and two aunts, Lema Warner of Circleville and Connie Turner of Maysville.

Margaret Patricia Prouty, 93, of Ruther Glen, Va., formerly of Moorefield, died Friday, Nov. 30, at her residence.

Born Feb. 14, 1914, she was the daughter of the late James Preston and Margaret (Simkins) Jennell. She was also preceded in death by five sisters and eight brothers. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty M. Hughes of Petersburg; and one son, Woodrow L. "Woody" Prouty of Ruther Glen; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon, at the Elmore Funeral Home chapel, Moorefield, with the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Interment was in the Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield.

Mrs. Esther Blanche (Parsons) Olinger, 58, of Dorcas, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, at her home.

Born Feb. 11, 1949, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Adam Miles Parsons Jr. and Trixie (Reel) Parsons. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel D. Knick Sr. and her second husband, James Olinger Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Luther B. Scott; one son, Samuel David "Jay" Knick Jr. of Petersburg; one daughter, Candy Wolfe of Dorcas; two grandchildren, Allison Knick and Brendon Knick; two sisters, Betty Parsons Otto of Anchorage, Alaska and Pricilla Parsons of Dorcas; and four brothers, Amos Parsons of Chincoteague, Va., Miles Parsons of Albertville, Ala., Andy Parsons of Dallas, Texas, and James Parsons of Fisher.

Arthur Harold "Art" Kimble, 63, of St. Albans, and formerly of Upper Tract, died Friday, Dec. 7, at CAMC General Hospital, after a short illness.

Born Sept. 10, 1944 in Upper Tract, he was the son of the late Russell and Dora (Spitzer) Kimble. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Archie Kimble; and one sister, Mary (Kimble) Reel.

He is survived by his wife, Robbin Kimble; three daughters, April Saunders of Eleanor, Michele Kimble and Krista Kelly, both of St. Albans; two brothers, John Kimble of Baltimore and Gerald Kimble of Petersburg; two sisters, Clement Shreve of Upper Tract and Fannie Alt of Baltimore; and three grandchildren, Allison Saunders, Dacoda Kimble and Tristen Kelly.

Funeral services are today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home chapel, Charleston, with the Rev. William K. Berry officiating.

Mrs. Mary Joan (Eye) Bookin, 75, of Upper Tract, died Thursday, Dec. 6, at her residence.

Born Aug. 26, 1932, at Deer run, she was the daughter of the late Harry Wilbert Eye and Annie Mae Martin. She was also preceded in death by one son, Joe Peter "Pete" Bookin III; and two sisters, Lois Ann Eye and Bonnie Vetters.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Peter Bookin Jr., whom she married May 25, 1950; one daughter, Sandra Jo "Sandy" Silberg of Williamsport, Pa.; one son, Darrell Bookin of Upper Tract; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Corrine Harness of Baltimore, Dorothy Humphrey of Franklin and Margaret Elliot of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; and one brother, Dr. H. Luke Eye of Franklin.

Roger Duane Werstein, 67, of Cabins, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at his residence.

Mr. Werstein was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Scarville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Catherine (Bergdoll) Werstein; three sisters, Donna Mullen of Newport News, Va., Darlene Bryant of Weslaco, Texas and Theresa Gable of Mason City, Iowa; two brothers, Ronald L. Werstein of Princeton, Ky. and Richard D. Werstein of Newport News; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Deams "Bob" Torrance, 73, of Upper Tract, died Saturday, Dec. 15, at his home.

Born Sept. 8, 1934, in Clinton, N.C., he was the son of the late Boney D. and Arola (Bell) Torrance. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, T.K. Torrance and William Torrance.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Kimble) Torrance; one daughter, Sheila Torrance of Harrisonburg, Va.; and two sisters, Evelyn Duff of Warsaw, N.C. and Georgia Kennedy of Apex, N.C.

Graveside services were Monday morning at Cherry Hill Cemetery, Upper Tract, with the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating. Military honors were accorded by VFW Post 6454.

Betty Mae Southerly, 74, of Moorefield, died Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Born May 18, 1933, in Hardy County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar B. and Flossie C. (Wolfe) Southerly. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Paul Southerly and five sisters, Berlyn Crites, Hazel Stump, Mary V. Stump, Thelma Crites and Ruth Hambleton.

She is survived by two sisters, Roberta Porter of Petersburg, and Nancy Hambleton of Moorefield; one brother, Wayne Southerly of Old Fields; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard W. "Rick" Smith, 54, of Burlington, died Friday, Dec. 14, in Keyser.

Born July 16, 1953, in Baltimore, he was the son of the Caroline (Brafford) Shoemaker of Burlington and the late Guy Edward Smith. He was also preceded in death by one nephew, Lee Smith.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 13 years, Susie C. (Kesner) Smith; four daughters, Rebecca D. Costilow and Vicki Bosley, both of Keyser, Vonda Litten of McCoole, Md. and Tab Shumaker of Burlington; three sons, Nathan R. Martin and Paul Adams, both of Burlington and Ricky Biser of Moorefield; one brother, Steve Smith of Burlington; one sister, Sharon Harrison of Moorefield; 15 grandchildren, Avery, Ayden and J.T. Costilow, Cody and Hunter Martin, Jennifer Miller, Kimberly Bosley, Hope and Clay Biser, Ashley Ryan, Scott Adams, Vanna and Aaron Westfall and Jeremy and Justin Shumaker; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Miller and Gabriel Ryan.

Mrs. Brenda Ellen Reel, 55, of Rig, died Friday, Dec. 14, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Nov. 23, 1952, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of late Boyd A. and Hazel E. (Sions) Shoemaker. She was also preceded in death by infant twin sons and one nephew.

She is survived by her husband, Darl V. Reel; two sons, Darl A. Reel and Brian W. Reel, both of Moorefield; two sisters, Dollye Benson of Winchester, Va. and Kathy Roop of Moorefield; and three grandchildren.

Dolly of Mount Storm; six grandchildren, Michael Moreland, Nicole Getz, Christopher Moreland, Victoria Moreland, Roger Dixon and Jacob Moreland; and one great-grandson, Landon Moreland.

Mrs. Ollie Arnold, was born to the late George Wesley and Charlotte (Ashworth) McKinney on Feb. 28, 1913, in Ghent, W.Va.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Arnold was preceded in death by son Cecil McKinney Arnold; sister Hester Faye McKinney; and two brothers, Howard Ashworth McKinney and Cecil Claude McKinney.

She is survived by son Douglas Justin Arnold and wife Dottie of Cabins, W.Va.; daughter Charlotte A. Campbell and husband Dr. Walker H. Campbell of Goldsboro, N.C.; brother, Dr. George Wesley McKinney Jr. and wife Lucille of Chapel Hill, N.C.; daughter-in-law Pamela C. Arnold of Springfield, Va.; sister-in-law Sadie McKinney of Beckley, W.Va.; sister-in-law Arlene Arnold of Petersburg, W.Va.; and six grandchildren, Anne Campbell Robbins and husband Chris of Cary, N.C., Sarah Campbell Thomas and husband Brad of Raleigh, N.C., John Justin Arnold and wife Lisa of Santa Fe, N.M., Andrew Daniels Arnold and wife Mary of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Ryan Edward Arnold of Cabins, W.Va. and Jennifer Sue Arnold of Cabins, W.Va. James Ray Taylor, 68, of Petersburg, and formerly of Arthur, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg.

Born June 10, 1939, in Purgitsville, he was the son of the late Elmer Ellsworth Taylor and Beulah (Dolly) Taylor. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Marie Genevieve Taylor and one brother, Denver E. Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Bonnie V. (Hinkle) Taylor; two sons, James Allen Hinkle of Wardensville and Richard Dale Alt of Cabins; one sister, Clara J. Sions of Burlington; and five grandchildren, Tiffani (Hinkle) Brashear of Westernport, Md., Dylan J. Hinkle, Dustin L. Hinkle and Dontae William Hinkle, all of Wardensville and Cody Allen Alt of Cabins.

Kerry Lynn Kisamore, 49, of Cabins, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at his residence.

Born Aug. 25, 1958, in Elkins, he was the son of Jacob "Jake" Kisamore of Seneca Rocks and the late Nellie Mullenax. He was also preceded in death by one brother, John Mullenax, his paternal grandparents, Martin and Pearlie Kisamore and his maternal grandparents, Kenny and Elva Mullenax.

He is also survived by his wife, of 17 years, Loretta (Weatherholtz) Kisamore; two sons, Jeremia Kisamore and Corey Kisamore at home; two daughters, Emily Kisamore and Kerri Kisamore, both at home; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vernon Lawrence Hanlin, 82, of Mount Storm, passed away at his residence on Monday, Dec.17, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, following a battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born May 10, 1925, at Mount Storm, he was the son of the late Glen A. and Anna Catherine "Kate" Hanlin. He was also preceded in deth by one sister, Nellie Cosner; and one brother, Harman Hanlin. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma (Cosner) Hanlin, whom he married on Oct. 15, 1947; one daughter, Dixie L. Collette and husband, James, of Mount Storm; one son, Jerry W. Hanlin, and wife Deborah, of Mount Storm; four grandchildren, Scott Collette and wife Emily of Mount Storm, Kelly Plantz and husband, Howard of Gallipolis Ferry, April Fels and husband, Randy of Westminister, Md. and Wayde Hanlin of Mount Storm; and five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kaitlyn and Allison Collette, Madison Plantz and Ethan Fels.

Funeral services were Thursday afternoon at the Mount Storm Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Paul Smith and the Rev. Randy Cosner officiating. Interment was in the Mount Storm Cemetery. Military rites were accorded.

Pallbearers were Scott Collette, Wayde Hanlin, Nathan Collette, Randy Fels, Denver Hight Jr. and Howard Plantz. Members of the Mount Storm Lions Club served as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Amy Nellie Burke, 94, of Elk Garden, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser.

Born June 12, 1913, in Sulphur, she was the daughter of the late Albert C. and Mattie M. (Lyons) Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Conrad W. Burke and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by two sons, Michael C. Burke and wife Sue of Keyser, and Dennis G. Burke and wife Libby of Laurel, Md.; and three grandchildren, Ryan and wife Sarah Burke of Keyser, Steven Burke of Martinsburg and Amy Burke of Laurel.

Funeral services were Saturday afternoon at the Burdock Funeral Home chapel, Kitzmiller, Md., with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating. Interment was in the Kalbaugh Cemetery.

C. Andrew "Andy" Boor, 75, of Dry Fork Community, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at his residence.

Born June 21, 1932, in Keyser, he was the son of the late Wayne C. and Anna Elizabeth (Pownell) Boor. Andy was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family will miss him dearly. There can be no doubt that Andy has been greeted by our Lord and Saviour and by his family who have passed before, including his beloved friend, Barney and his grandson, Jesse Wayne.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Hoskins) Boor, whom he married Dec. 17, 1988; one son, David A. Boor of Jacksonville, Fla.; five daughters, Amy B. Munn of Afton, Va., Rebecca B. Mattson of Riverside, Calif., Kristi H. Ross of Rosedale, Md., and Sarah B. Harlow and Kati E. Howard, both of Danville, Va.; two brothers, John Boor of Flippin, Ark. and William Boor of Camp Hill, Pa.; and 13 grandchildren, Brandon Boor, Allison Boor, Mandy Boor, Will Hereford, Mason Hereford, Molly Hereford, Andrew St. John Hereford, Tucker Helgeson, Sean Helgeson, Kelli-Anne Harlow, B.J. Harlow, Mary Elizabeth Ross and Jake Howard. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Maddy Jo Boor.

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon, at the Christ Episcopal Church, Danville, with the very Rev. Cleon Ross officiating.

Arnold Vincent Bland, age 43, of Manassas, Va., passed away suddenly on Dec. 12, 2007, with his wife by his side. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his six children, Ryan, Jordan, Catherine, Lauren, Brandon and Ian; and his parents, Ernest and Gwen Bland. He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles and extended family members.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Pierce Funeral Home chapel, 9609 Center St., Manassas.

Interment was private. Vincent's family would like to express their gratitude to the emergency response personnel, the staff at Fairfax Hospital, as well as friends and family for the outstanding care and support they provided.

John Paul Bennett, 76, of Middletown, Md., and formerly of Onego, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the home of his daughter, Betty Turley, Middletown.

Born March 19, 1931, in Onego, he was the son of the late Estel and Iva (Dolly) Bennett. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Carl Bennett, Don Bennett and Foster Bennett; three sisters, Josie Payne, Ruby Burke and Eva Patterson; and one infant grandson, Lucas Downes.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Mowery) Bennett; five daughters, Betty Turley and Judy Bennett, both of Middletown, Kaythern Bennett of Frederick, Md., and Sharon Bennett and Brenda Bennett, both of West Virginia; three sons, Estel Paul Bennett of Westminister, Md., Walter James Bennett of Pennsylvania and Dennis Lee Bennett of Frederick; three sisters, Shirley Flohr of Augusta, Vallie Kisamore of Cabins and Merle Sites of Petersburg; two brothers, Clifford Bennett of Maysville and Chester Bennett of Onego; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
