Russell “Rusty” Davis Strait Jr., age 73, of Lahmansville, W.Va., died on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at his home.

Rusty was born and raised in Albany, Ore. and was the son of the late Russell D. Strait Sr. and Saronalee (Shimp) Strait. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gail Strait.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Nina Strait; sister, Jerrilee Schwab; daughters, Kellie Pressel and Stacie Jessen; and best friend, Don Rankin.

Rusty was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in Vietnam on the USS Boxer. He was awarded the Purple Heart for sustaining injury and the Navy Cross for valor in combat. Rusty moved to St. John in the Caribbean as a peacetime sailor and worked in the charter boat industry. He and Nina shared a love of the Caribbean people, landscape, water and sailing. Rusty moved to Alexandria, Va. where he and Nina married in 1988. They built a home and retired in Lahmansville, W.Va. in 1992, where they shared another love of the land, lifestyle and people.

Rusty will be greatly missed by family and friends throughout the country who will remember his smile, wit, ingenuity, grace and wisdom.
