Verda Catherine “Katie” Kesner, 95, of Petersburg, W.Va., passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Dec. 22, 1924, in Smoke Hole, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late  Lester Glen George and  Zura Ethel (Alt) George.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gleason Coolidge “Jake” Kesner in 1988; two daughters, Carol Ann Kesner and Dianne Lee Kesner in 1968; an infant son, Kenneth Dale Kesner in 1957; son-in-law, Wayne Clark in 2009;  three brothers;  one sister;  one half brother and one half sister.

Katie enjoyed taking her walks and gardening.  She was known for her flowers on Water Street.  She retired from Joan Curtis Manufacturing. She was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church. 

She is survived by six daughters, Helen Clark of Upper Tract, W.Va., and Donna (Larry) Sullivan, Sara (Bill) Ours, Sharon (John) Brennan, Judy (Matt) Lough and Debbie (Jeff) Cosner, all of Petersburg; one son, Jack Kesner of Petersburg; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; two half brothers, Raymond George and Charles George, both of Upper Tract;  five half sisters, Ethel Davis of Keyser, W.Va., Mary Helmick of Petersburg, Linda Kile, Becky Kile and Joy Lantz, all of Upper Tract; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 31, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Larry Hakes and Matt Lough officiating.  Burial followed in the Kesner Family Cemetery Rough Run, W.Va.
