Stacey Berg stopped by the Grant County Press office last week for an end-of-year wrap-up, reflecting on a season that saw Petersburg reach new heights and rally an entire community.
For Berg, putting that kind of season into words isn’t easy.
“It’s hard to put together something that started back in November,” he said. “You don’t want to drag it out, but every season—good or bad—deserves to be looked at. What worked, what didn’t, and where you go from here.”

Petersburg’s track teams continued to build momentum April 9 at Keyser, picking up multiple event wins and strong relay finishes while also adding a new face to the lineup.
Senior Kaleb Kuhn made his track debut for the Vikings and wasted no time making an impact, posting a personal-best 11.92 in the 100 meters and helping the 4x100 relay team to a runner-up finish (46.11).

Petersburg Splits Results Across Two Tennis Matches

Petersburg’s tennis teams saw a mix of results across two recent matches, facing Trinity and Philip Barbour.
Against Trinity, Petersburg picked up a win at No. 3 singles, where Taylan VanMeter earned an 8-1 victory. The Vikings also found success in doubles play, winning at No. 2 doubles (8-5) behind Madelyn Cook and Mattea Abersold, and at No. 3 doubles, where Anna Teter and Sophie Rafter secured an 8-0 sweep.

MS Vikings Split Baseball Doubleheader at Buckhannon-Upshur

Petersburg Middle School baseball split a doubleheader on the road Saturday, dropping a low-scoring opener before bouncing back with an 8-6 win in Game 2.
In the first game, Petersburg fell 3-1 despite a dominant outing on the mound from Aeryn Judy. The right-hander struck out 12 and allowed just two hits over 5 1/3 innings, accounting for 16 outs.
Buckhannon-Upshur broke through in the third inning, using a double from Landon Hyre and an RBI single from Jaxon McDaniels to take control.
